Your Church: A few years ago, Standard Publishing
(Cincinnati) published my book, Advertising Your Church. It
sold quite well (over 5,000 copies) with virtually no promotion. Then,
Prudential Insurance voiced a complaint over one of the ad examples
contained within the book ("Get the PEACE of the Rock"). Rather than
fight the issue in court, Standard decided to withdraw it from
inventory and the book shelves. Both Standard and I felt we would
probably win in court, but that the fight wasn’t worth it.
The rights on this book returned to me, including the copyright. Since then, I have extensively revised and upgraded the book (yes, I’ve removed the controversial ad). The pages of this book show the reader how a series of sixty, well-written, accurate ads can build the image of a church. It instructs the reader on all pertinent facets of advertising (radio, television, billboards, and newspapers), with special focus on newspapers. Before writing my book, I had provided advertising support to over 350 churches across the USA, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Trinidad/Tobago and Bermuda. My ads also received “Best Ads in a Continuing Series” award from the Washington State Newspaper Association several years in a row (until I stopped entering the contest). I am aware of no other book that treats this subject in this manner, although I recently learned of an anonymous Florida resident who paid the Smith Agency in Fort Lauderdale $150,000 to produce a spiritual, non-denominational ad campaign “that people could relate to in a modern kind of way.” “Advertising Your Church” presents superior promotions with greater insights into how to place them before the public. For a whole lot less money. |
